Anthony Joseph DiNome

Anthony Joseph DiNome of Riverdale, NY, entered eternal life June 25, 2017, at St. John’s Riverside Hospital. Born in Manhattan to Joseph and Margaret DiNome, May 2, 1921, he served with distinction as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during WWII.  As the pilot of a B26 Marauder, he flew 48 missions in the European theater.  After his service, Anthony married the love of his life, Jeanette Basciano, on January 25, 1947. Together they raised 12 children.

A graduate of Pace College and New York Law School, he enjoyed a long and distinguished career working for Harris, Kerr, Foster & Co.; Loews Corp.; and Benenson Capital Partners, LLC. Anthony especially enjoyed baseball, swimming, and tennis in his youth, and golf in later years. He enjoyed singing , playing guitar and ukulele, and serenading his beautiful Jeanette. Family sing-a-longs and huge gatherings were commonplace in the DiNome household. Anthony’s gifts as a tinkerer, inventor, kitchen builder, auto mechanic, and family barber were also well known. Visits to “Anthony’s Tonsorial Parlor” were usually met with pleas of despair from his seven sons during their grammar school and high school years (with little sympathy from their sisters). He was often known for his teaching moments on religion, politics, points of law, business and ethics. A life-long, devout Roman Catholic, Anthony was a daily communicant, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was known for his extraordinary charity.

Anthony is predeceased by his three siblings, John, Joseph and Marion, and his wife of 63 years Jeanette. He is survived by his 12 children and spouses, 34 grandchildren and their spouses, 21 great-grandchildren, friends and extended family. Viewing will be held Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave., Bronx, NY.  Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, June 30, at 10:45 a.m. at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Ave., Bronx, NY 10471. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.

The family sincerely thanks Anthony’s devoted caregiver Ms. Marvelin Hodges-Lowery; his compassionate physicians Elliott Rosch, MD, and Sarah Carol, MD, and the wonderful medical and nursing staff of the ICU at St. John’s Riverside Hospital, Yonkers.
